Pentanet and Canopus Networks lock in $2 million grant to “revolutionise” Australian cloud gaming

Telecommunications business Pentanet (ASX:5GG) has secured a $2 million grant to advance cloud gaming in Australia alongside network manager Canopus Networks.

The $26.90-million-market-capitalisation company says the funds provided by the Australian Federal Government’s Cooperative Research Centre Project will be used to develop innovative artificial intelligence (AI)-enhanced network performance solutions to support cloud gaming.

Pentanet reports key areas of focus for this project include the development of tailored AI algorithms for precise gaming experience measurement, user interface integration with dynamic network provisioning, real-time adjustments for bandwidth, and frameworks for validation and accounting.

In order to achieve this feat, Pentanet notes it will be working closely with Canopus Networks and the University of New South Wales (UNSW) on the design and implementation of the innovative solution.

Pentanet isa substantial shareholder in Canopus Networks, currently possessing an 11.45% stake in the company. Pentanet seeks to leverage its network infrastructure in order to provide the project’s necessary measurement and enhancements for cloud gaming.

Commenting on the grant, Pentanet Managing Director Stephen Cornish said: “By collaborating with Canopus Networks and UNSW, we are confident that we can elevate the cloud gaming experience for subscribers on our CloudGG platform.”

Elaborating on this, Canopus Networks Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Professor at UNSW Vijay Sivaraman says the company has its sights set on revolutionising the cloud gaming industry within Australia.

Pentanet is a Perth-based internet service provider already building ‘strong’ foundations within Australia’s cloud gaming industry. The company is the exclusive partner of NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW cloud gaming service to Optus customers through subscription management platform SubHub.

Canopus Network is an AI-based network traffic analytics technology provider for mobile and fixed networks with a focus on optimising network performance and enhancing user experiences.
